Monkeys like to jump and climb everywhere. If a rigid fence is used for the monkey enclosure, it might hurt the lovely beings. Cable mesh is as flexible as branches.
Even if the monkeys hit the fence or drop to the enclosure, it won't hurt at all. That's why most of zoos prefer flexible wire netting for an enclosure.
If you wanna it to be really durable and maintenance-free, it has to be stainless steel netting, better with marine grade 316.
